resolve

So I meant to post this almost two weeks ago.  That didn’t happen. Obviously. BUT: I’ve resolved to blog every two weeks OR more frequently, so feel free to live in hope of future punctuality!

Update: I can’t find my camera’s USB cable!  We are at an impasse… Further Update: found it in my bag from Black Butte, along with my shuffle charger! Phew!

Here are the rest of my Christmas creations!

So almost every year my mom makes my dad a “bermuda” shirt in some fun print!  Christmas, birthday, Fathers Day… you name it, he probably has a shirt from it.  This year, I decided to make him a shirt all by myself!  I found this gorgeous bi-weave taffeta-ish fabric in the clearance section ($3/yd, ridiculous deal!)  It wasn’t that hard, especially when I figured out what I was supposed to be doing with the front interfacing and the collar!  Does he not look sharp?

I saw an adorable owl pillow online somewhere:

SnugglyOwl

I immediately thought: I could make that!  So I did!  Mine’s a bit poofier, as it’s stuffed with fiberfill instead of some über-cool pillowform or whatever they put in theirs to make it flatter, but it’s still super-cute!  I totally realized I’d forgot the feet on my owl until I looked at this picture… and realized that they just stitched the pieces onto the owl base rather than dealing with funny intersecting and curved seams. FML.

I realized when I was gathering pictures for this post before Christmas (it’s been in the works, legitimately, since probably the 20th, so I haven’t completely procrastinated), that I’d forgot to put feet on the owl!  So I quickly stitched some together and whip-stitched them onto the owl.  Phew! My little Eleanor-Bird has a not-so-little bird of her own! Too cute! Maman likes it, too! Note the feng shui painting in the upper right!

ThorToyP1010287

I found these adorable squeakie toys at Goodwill! Thor chewed through the top of one part of the way through our present-opening! Had to confiscate that puppy… the toy, not the dog, lol!  I think this is him on his second one…

If you want more pictures of my excellent adventures with the fam at Black Butte (20 miles west of Sisters, OR, roughly), and our days of skiing at Hoodoo (west of BB), you can check out my Facebook page (I’m pretty sure it’s wide open to the public, me being a trusting person who puts publicity/accessibility above paranoid fears of stalkers among the internet public)!  Ellie and I went skiing on Red Chair, which is off the main track and thus less crowded—yay!  We skiied for a couple hours together before dad joined us (the chairlift guy, whose name starts with “P,” like Parley or something) commented that I just kept bringing more friends with me ;)

Avert cellphone audio jack dangle, Avert Bamboo earrings; Avert Red Clover Earrings; Avert Eye Necklace: all using lampwork beads, evil eye beads from Turkey (from Istanbul, I think—thanks, Jenn!), some Swarovski crystal elements, silver tone spacers, chain, wire, and earwires, and one sterling silver-plated toggle clasp.  Most of the Avert/Evil Eye designs were for the Lacy Clan Ladies—my aunt gave my cousin a necklace of mine, so I switched out Emmaluv’s earrings and gave my uncle’s guest the matching pair, which worked out well because I hadn’t accounted for an extra lady!

RESOLUTIONS (in no particular order):

1) Exercise 3+ times weekly

2) Work on jewelry 1+ times weekly

3) Read a non-fiction book once every two months

4) Keep my résumé/portfolio up to date (this will be a tough one, as I have about two years of work to catch up on!)

5) Study Spanish!  Maybe take a class this summer, but start working through the text/activity book now!

6) Practice another martial art (aikido? karate? kendo? jiujitsu?…)

7) Write to Jenn monthly (you will see how well I do, dear!)

8) Skype with Ellen monthly (ditto)

9) Work on art at least once a month

10) Be social outside of church (and roommates): THIS will be a toughie, since I work from home :D ideas, anyone?

11) Pray morning and night (I currently only remember my nightly prayers) and try to make it a conversation, not a monologue!

12) Read my scriptures morning and night (ditto the previous)

13) Blog every 2 weeks!

That’s enough to be going on with for now, I think!  More pics and excitement next week!  Maybe I shall make Monday my Blog Day… what do you think?

  1. Emily! I love my “Avert cellphone audio jack dangle” – now I know it’s name. heehee.
re: #10 Since I also work from home, I have a weekly walk/hike date with a friend who lives a mile and a half away. We agree to leave our homes at the same time and meet in the middle which just happens to be a great access path to Mt Tabor park. Then we walk to the top and around and back down. We socialize AND get some exercise.
#13 – I also have a commitment to self to post every two weeks. mostly I meet that. Since my blog is work-related (music and teaching), I can’t just post about anything. got any ideas for me to keep posting?
great resolutions. love #9, #1, #11-12 – though for me this is meditation practice instead of prayer and scriptures. similar.

    • Thanks, Mary Ellen! Glad you like it—it will keep your phone free of evil influences *cough cough Microsoft cough cough* Re #10 that is a very good idea! I have some local friends I should really get back in contact with, and walking would be a great activity! Re #13 posting: since my blog is significantly picture-related, I try to do something picture-worthy, or find something that looks cool on the internet and run with it; for a musically-oriented blog, I know you done the “skyline” linear compositions where you superimpose a staff on the image and draw notes in over geographical features: that would be a neat prompt or jumping off point. Pick a picture, draw the music out of it, and run with what the notes say to you! Just my fifty-seven or so cents! Good luck finding inspiration!
